I was in Indianapolis for a volleyball tournament when I stopped at Social Cantina with my mom, my sister, and some of my teammates. 


Social Cantina serves modern Mexican food. It’s a small chain with restaurants in Bloomington, Indianapolis, Carmel, and Mishawaka. It’s a sit-down restaurant with lots of tables and a bar with seating.


The menu has a wide selection of appetizers, entrees, and desserts. for example enchiladas and fajita burritos. It also has soups, salads, tacos, and cantina bowls like a la verde bowl. They also have two vegan options for tacos. The dessert menu includes churros with chocolate and strawberry sauce and tres leches which are sponge cake, sweetened milk, whipped cream, and strawberries. 


We got seated quickly at a large table surrounded by comfortable chairs. We started by ordering drinks. I got a Shirley Temple. It had a good ratio of sprite to grenadine. The drinks came out quickly. We then ordered the chips and queso. It took about 15 minutes. The queso was a white queso blended with roasted peppers. It was heavenly. It was just the right amount of creaminess and a little spicy but not over-powering. 


Our food came out about 15 minutes after the queso. I ordered two carnitas tacos and one Carne asada taco. The carnitas came with citrus-marinated pork, salsa verde, pico de gallo, and cilantro. The carne asada came with marinated and grilled flank steak, grilled peppers, and onions, chimichurri, and cotija cheese. I thought I was going to like the carnitas better than the carne asada, but I ended up liking the carne asada a lot more than the carnitas. The carne asada had chimichurri sauce which tasted so good; it was a little spicy but had a green freshness to it. It also had cotija cheese on it which added lots of flavor. 


One of my friends ordered the La Verde bowl which included, tinga marinated chicken, cilantro lime rice, salsa verde, guacamole, tomatillo creme, tropical pico, mango, and red cabbage.  She did not finish the bowl because it had so much food but she said it was good. After all of this food, we did not have room for dessert. 


Overall I was very pleasantly surprised with how amazing Social Cantina was. My friends and I were talking about how great the queso was the rest of the weekend and even ended up going to Social Cantina again before leaving Indianapolis.
