The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow, starts in a small quiet town that has supernatural events going on in it. “From the listless repose of the place, and the peculiar character of its inhabitants, who are descendants from the original Dutch settlers, thmuis sequestered glen has long been known by the name of SLEEPY HOLLOW '' (Irving 3). Villagers in Sleepy Hollow talk about a headless horseman who got his head blown off. This headless horseman was a former Hessian Trooper. “The place still continues under the sway of some witching power, that holds a spell over the minds of the good people, causing them to walk in a continual reverie” (Irving 3). People also have strange dreams.

Sleepy Hollow is where people dream about the supernatural and magic that controls the mind’s of good people. Irving states, “Certain it is, the place still   con-tinues under  the  sway  of  some  witching  power, that holds a spell over the minds of the good people, causing them to walk in a continual  reverie” (Irving 3). The town is considered sleepy hollow because villagers believe that the town was cursed by a witch doctor (Irving 3).

A tall man named Ichabod had recently moved to a Sleepy Hollow. Ichabod applied to become a teacher at the school of Sleepy Hollow. Ichabod had gone over to the vanticles for supper. Mrs.Vanticle had told Ichabod about the headless horseman. Ichabod had walked home on the trail where the headless horseman lured. Icahbod was very scared. When icahbod had got home he thought there was a ghost in his house. But it was just born bones playing a prank on him. Brom took all opportunities of turning him into ridicule in presence of his mistress. (Irving 21)

Broms and Ichabod had a rivalry because they both liked cotrinia. Later on in the story cotrina found out that Icahbod only wanted her for her wealth and did not actually love her. The Vantisles had thrown a town get together. Icahobod hard headed on the trail to the Ventricles. Brom bones and his boys planned to scare Ichabod. While Icahbod was headed to the Ventricles he met Brom bones and his boys but they were dressed up as the headless horseman.

Towards the end of, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow talks about encountering the tree that was said to be haunted by Major Andre. Ichabod sees a shadow and calls to it and asks who was there. The shadow did not answer Ichabod, but instead it approached Ichabod and his horse and began to walk beside them on the road. Ichabod then discovered that the horseman riding next to him is headless and he began to panic so he kicked Gunpowder to tell him to go. Ichabod and the Headless Horseman ran side by side to the church where Ichabod thought he was safe. Irving says, “‘If I can but reach that bridge,’ thought Ichabod, ‘I am safe’” (Irving 39). Since Ichabod was not a familiar horse rider, Ichabod felt relieved to see that once he crossed the bridge he would be close to the church. When Icabod reached the church, the ghost threw his detached head at Ichabod and threw him off of his horse and he was never seen in the town of Sleepy Hollow again.
