My first time reading The Wishing Spell by Chris Colfer was something I yearn to experience again. Late one night, my family is packing for a trip to Florida. We had decided to drive instead of flying there. My family likes listening to books, so we had to pick one for our road trip. We found a book called The Wishing Spell. Needing it in an audio format we found it for our mp3 player for the trip. This book kept me, a seven year old, entertained in a car for nine hours. Looking back at this I am very thankful that we decided on this book. As it led me to find my favorite book of all time. The genre is my favorite. I can read it multiple times and still enjoy it, and the writing style is amazing, which appeals to all ages.

When looking for books most people like to know the genre. The Wishing Spell is a blend of a fantasy style and an adventure book. The author does a great job mixing these two genres. For me growing up my favorite genre was a more fantasy style. This book isn’t as heavy and long as a typical fantasy-style book, which helps make it amazing. He adds in the adventure to the book, and that does a nice job of adding in a better plot. While knowing the genre is an okay way to choose a book. This book starts to stand out to me with its hidden almost easter egg like connections from earlier in the book.

A sign of a great book is when I can read it multiple times and still enjoy it. The first experience was still my favorite; however, every time I read this book, it surprises me with a new detail that I missed. Sometimes that detail is something small like the color of someone's hair, but when it is some cool connection from earlier in the book. It makes reading this book multiple times worth it, which I’ve done multiple times. To have these little snippets of information the author uses a certain style of writing that I quite enjoy.

The way that the author writes the book is also very nice to me. To some, the style of writing may not be their favorite; however, he incorporates the style quite nicely. The way he jumps between different settings and characters is well executed. This is something that with other books has annoyed me, but Colfer mostly sticks with the main characters. Then will occasionally switch to some side story that gives background information. Instead of narrating he uses character dialogue for most of the story. This style may not appeal to everyone, but suits me and my family very well.

My parents have enjoyed this book almost as much as I do. They have both gone on to read the rest of the series. This is a book that I have found that all ages enjoy very much. I have enjoyed it every time I have read it. He does an excellent job of making it so there are parts that appeal to adults; without having darker themes for the younger reader; although I may be a bit biased towards it. He seemed to have all ages in mind while writing The Wishing Spell. The way he writes the book for all audiences makes it one of my favorite books to read when falling asleep; because he keeps it interesting, but has a lighter writing style.

 When choosing a book to read. I could recommend no better book than the one that I have just described. We had a lot of fun driving down to Florida. It was not only because of the book, but it would have been a much longer drive without it; however, the drive back from Florida was much less entertaining since there was no book being read.  I understand that every
