Review Blitz - Where the Mountain Meets the Moon
Where the Mountain Meets the Moon was a fastinating story full of sweet moments. I've noticed that the author of this book uses their unique voice to convey the warmth in this story to the readers by the main character. The main character was naive and innocent which made my heart melt as I kept on reading.
My favorite quote from this book is, "Even in the misty light, the goldfish man could see her smiling a secret smile up to the sky to where the mountain meets the moon." in page 278. I also liked the quote, "You've swam all the oceans and rivers? Which river haven't you been? Why have you traveled so much?". These two quotes might seem different at first but they share the same element that I loved. Even though the quotes were from sentences that characters spoke, they sounded so poetic. It amazed me about how just a conversation could be so poetic and wonderful.
The book was about a girl, Minli, looking for a way to bring her family good fortune and when she listens to the goldfish man's tale, she buys a goldfish from him and sets out on a journey to find the old man of the moon who will help Minli. It was a really calm and soothing book to read and the there were many themes within this book. Some of the themes are, be grateful for what you have, care for the others around you, and never doubt yourself.
Here are some questions to ponder on about as you read the book - 1. Do you think Minli was brave to bring the family fortune or a coward for being scared of poverty? 2. Do you believe that myths are real?
