“What do you think?” Crookedstar asked Leopardfur suddenly.

“Me?” Leopardfur blinked in surprise.

“You.” He stared at her expectantly.

Warriors: Super Edition Leopardstar’s Honor is an engrossing book that shows a cat’s growth from a kit into the leader of her clan. Leopardkit grew from being an abandoned kit that was nursed by a fellow queen*, to Leopardstar, a strong, confident leader that is trusted by her clan and leads her clan away from the havoc that other forest clans have caused for them. This book connects the lives of cats with the activity of humans, and demonstrates our daily lives from the viewpoint of cats. For example, in a cat’s view, cars are called “monsters” and roads are called “thunderpaths”.

In the beginning, Leopardkit, a sleek-furred, dappled, golden tabby, often secluded herself in the bushes around her camp, and wouldn‘t  join in other kits’ games. As she matured, from a kit, to an apprentice, to a warrior, to a deputy, and finally to a leader, she mastered many important leadership skills from her father Mudfur and her leader Crookedstar. When Crookedstar finally died, and left her in charge of the clan, Leopardstar was faced with many problems. First, she was not confident of her leadership, and second, there were many problems in and around her clan; the river that her clan relied heavily on for their food was being dammed and poisoned by humans, and the other clans in the forest were constantly trying to invade their territory. When Leopardstar accepted the leadership, she had to find a solution to those problems and lead her clan through hard times.

In the story, my favorite scene is where the clans decided to work together to rescue Wind Clan, a neighboring tribe. All four groups worked together to send two young warriors to bring back a clan that was sent to exile by rogues. This shows just how cats can collaborate and gets jobs done. However, no work can ever get done if there is not a strong leader to lead the group; this is where strong leadership must come in for a group to succeed.

I feel a special connection to Leopardstar because we both learned life lessons about leadership. Leopardstar had to lead her clan through the problems as mentioned, while I led my group once during a History project. In the beginning, Leopardstar’s indecisive leadership led to her clan almost falling apart, while I trusted my teammates to pull their weight in the presentation. But after a week of nothing being done, I decided I had to assign roles; I had to be in charge, so did Leopardstar. While Leopardstar practiced leadership by demonstrating to her clan that she was really the one in charge, I assigned roles to my teammates. We both have a lot more in common than I originally thought, and it made me really captivated by the book.

Overall, Warriors: Super Editions Leopardstar’s Honor is a book for those who love animals, especially cats, and those who like some tastes of battle in books. The author really draws out the importance of leadership through the main character, and I feel the audience can easily learn leadership through the story.
