The book Stung written by Bethany Wiggins is a dystopian book that takes the reader on an intense journey in a new post-apocalyptic world.  The book takes place in a distant future where a virus has diminished earth's population, leaving the world with many terrible and dangerous creatures.

The book follows the main character, Fiona, who wakes up in a hospital after she was stung by a scorpion.  When she wakes up she has no memory of her past, but soon she finds out that she is a survivor in a world with many people missing.  As she is forced to try to survive in her new destroyed world.  Unraveling the mystery of the strange spider tattoo on her hand

Fiona needs to find the cure to save her life.  Desperately, Fiona sets out on an intense journey with her best friend and mysterious boy who may hold the key to saving her life.  As they navigate through harsh and unforgiving bogs, marshes, and forests, they discover shocking secrets about the virus and the world they thought they knew.

One of the most enjoyable parts of this story is the pacing.  The story is constantly moving, along with many twists, turns, and spirals that keep the reader engaged.  With many fights and dangerous situations hidden behind these pages.  Especially anytime you are in the woods.  There is no safety in this world.  Another standout feature of the book is the way it includes very complex themes in a simple and very relatable way to the reader.  The book raises thought provoking questions about trust in a world where everyone is out to get you, as well as the ethics of survival in a world where resources are slim and the possibility that at any moment you could die.

Another enjoyable part of the story is the writing style which is also very engaging.  The book has a perfect balance of action, dialogue, and descriptive events.  The descriptions given in “STUNG” are perfect.  Along with detailed descriptions of the bloodthirsty creatures and the dying environment that make the reader feel like they are in the middle of the action.  The character development is extremely impressive for a book with only 300 pages.  Starting as a very scared girl she adapts and changes.  She becomes a waste lander and fights for herself instead of having others fight her battles.  Fiona has a very tough and never give up attitude and is not afraid to face her fears.

Overall “STUNG” is a must read for those who enjoy reading dystopian books.  It's a fast paced and thrilling book that keeps you on your toes the entire book.  Bethany Wiggins has created an entertaining and vivid world with characters that will leave readers wanting more.
