The Boy in the Striped Pajamas truly takes you back to the time of the holocaust. Bruno, a boy no older than 12, is moved out to the middle of nowhere with his family. Bruno’s character is built upon a young and curious boy who loves to explore, which is what he ended up doing in this story. Bruno is raised without any knowledge of why these people, who look tired, ill, and starved, are trapped behind these fences.

To Bruno, “people are all the same.” But to Bruno’s father, “certain people deserve certain gifts and certain punishment.” With Bruno having made a friend at the concentration camp behind his house, he just can’t get that into his mind.

John Boyne put together a story of two best friends with a real life suffering of a person to create a very entertaining and inspiring book. This book symbolizes that no matter who you are, no matter what race or religion, you can find a friend in anyone.
