Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
I passionately recommend Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte for those who enjoy 19 century drama. Bronte’s novel investigates how love can be etched in your mind forever. Heathcliff, an orphan, is discovered by Mr. Earnshaw in Liverpool. He takes home to Wuthering Heights, where he’s raised. Everything is great now because the poor, orphan child has a comfortable, wonderful home.
Right off the bat, Hindley doesn’t like Heathcliff because he’s favored by Hindley’s father, the man who found him. Obviously, this will create problems between the two when they’re growing up. Catherine Linton, Hindley’s aunt, expresses certain, strong feelings for Heathcliff. They both hold two very distinctive personalities which makes the story that much more entertaining.
This book really appealed to me because it’s a story within a story. This works because it was written in a different time period, but then Mrs. Dean starts her flashback story, which takes you a few more decades back. Catherine Linton doesn’t treat people with that much respect, but she thinks she makes no mistakes. Sometimes, she lets her anger hurt the ones around her.
This book taught me that arrogance and anger will turn someone into a monster, and you’ll be feared. There is a lot of little thinks that Catherine says, but she doesn’t realize it, and it ends up hurting people more than she expected.
