Teen Life Saver

If you are a person who likes to be dazzled by words, intoxicated by adventure, and warmed by romance, then Divergent, written by Veronica Roth, is the book for you. Divergent brings the reader into the world of Beatrice Price, a teenage girl who is trying to find herself as she has to make her way into world by crossing the threshold of childhood into adulthood. Beatrice lives in a dystopian society that is separated into five distinct factions each of which are built upon dedicating oneself to a single characteristic: Abnegation faction for the selfless, Erudite for the intelligent, Candor for the honest, Dauntless for the brave, and Amnity for the kind. Beatrice was born into Abnegation, but as a 16 year old the time has come for her to make the choice of what path she wants to take and which faction she wishes to continue her adult life in. The book follows Beatrice in her captivating journey as she is forced to tackle life and death danger, unknown territory, and spine tingling emotion.

Divergent is captivating because it pulls you out of reality while still reflecting real life. Beatrice brings you into her world of fierce heroism and fiery romance. She gives you something to believe because time and time again she faces fatal obstacles yet conquers each and every one. Her courage and dedication takes readers from their quiet bedrooms and transports them to an oppressed world of camouflaged adventure. Also, the romance depicted in the story gives single individuals, who desperately crave mushy gushy love, a peak into a storybook romance and it gives them hope that they themselves can find that passion. However, as much as the story pulls the reader from reality, it does a good job of staying realistic and relatable because the character emotions are plausible. Beatrice gets jealous the same way any teenage girl does when she sees her friend’s hot new outfit. She struggles with the sorrow of being on her own and she is forced to grow up the same way seniors on their way to college have to mature. So, her internals thoughts and feelings are easily relatable, especially to young adults, because they are the same records that are playing in the minds of many individuals in everyday life.

Divergent is a must read, period. It will make you laugh, cry, or even shriek. It pulls on your heart strings by capturing your sympathy as well as your hope. The book is enchanting and exciting. It is fictional while still remaining relatable. Bottom line it’s a progressive plot consisting of bold characters, fierce passion, mind bending pain, and endless adventure.
