From Torrance, California to the Berlin olympic games then all the way to WW2 Unbroken is a fascinating book that makes the reader feel like they are reading six books in one.
As a young boy Louis Zamperini got into fights, stole food from local restaurants, and even ran away from home.  But in his early teens louis channeled all his negative energy into running.  With the help of his brother Pete, Louis became a fantastic runner.  he was even predicted to be the first to run the four minute mile.  He then took this great talent of his all the way to the Berlin Olympic games were he didn't win but was a great contender.  But in a little time after the Olympics World War two strikes and Louis is forced to be in the U.S air force.  Louis was a bombardier in the air force and successfully completed many missions.  Then Louis and his crew barely make it alive from one of the missions, but in the process they lose their bomber.  They then have to go on a mission with a very unsafe bomber.  On the mission there bomber crashes and only louis and two other members survive the crash in the pacific.  Louis is then facd with thousands of miles of pacific ocean on each side of him, but that's not the worst he has to go trough.  After the 47th day of being lost at sea Louis and Phil (The other crew member dies after about 30 days) wash up on an island occupied by Japan which was one of America opposing forces in WW2.  Louis and phil are then shipped to many POW (prisoner of war camps) where their endurance has to be tested to the max limit.
If I were asked if I liked or disliked this book, my answer would definitely a huge thumbs up.  This story is a great example of a book that will entertain you but also inform you of the awful things people had to go through during WW2.  I would love to read more of Laura Hillenbrand's work, because the way she throws out the plot of this story makes it seem like I'm reading six stories in one.  This would be a great recommendation to kids my age, because this tells you that no matter how bad you have it somebody has it worse.
In conclusion, Unbroken was a very thrilling read for myself.  I could hardly put down the book it was so good.  The way the story is written makes he story even seem like it's fiction!  But it is not, Unbroken is nonfiction and is probably the best nonfiction book I've ever read.
