Read Between the Lines by Jo Knowles
Raising the middle finger to someone in American society is seen as an offensive way to display emotions. Despite the offensiveness, the middle finger is often wielded towards other people without much thought. But how does it feel to be on the receiving end of the middle finger? That topic is explored throughout Read Between the Lines by Jo Knowles.
In a small town, lives overlap whether they know the significance or not. Jo Knowles keeps this in mind as she tells her story through different perspectives. Each character is different than the next, but they fit into the overall picture.
This is by far one of the best books that I have ever read concerning the life of teenagers. The different perspectives truly help to give the story dimension as to how each action can affect another. Each character is relatable in their own way as they experience the emotions every teenager faces- embarrassment, heartbreak, and the desire for perfection.
Overall, I could not even pick one favorite character because each added to the story. By understanding each character’s unique perspective, it truly showed how each person is ultimately connected within the small town. I give it a 5/5 stars rating as it truly impressed me, which is pretty hard to do. I highly recommend to anyone from any age group or any gender to read Read Between the Lines to see what you can discover about yourself as you read through each character.
