The Thing
Fighting for survival, not knowing who is their friend and who is their foe, the fake, the abomination that will try to kill them and feed any chance it gets. That was just a little peek of what the unsuspecting characters have to face in the (1982) film, “The Thing”.
The movie was directed by John Carpenter who came out with various other films such as “Halloween”, “They Live”, and “Tales From The Crypt” just to name a few, and written by Bill Lancaster. Some of the cast members were, (Kurt Russell, Wilford Brimley, T.K. Carter, David Clennon, Keith David, and Richard Dysart). The movie is R rated, has violence and gore, profanity, frightening, and intense scenes, and mild use of alcohol and tobacco use.
“The Thing” is about a team of American research scientists who haven't been able to reach anybody in 2 weeks and are stranded in remote Antarctica. They are soon in a situation where one of them, Commander Garry, has to shoot a random person, who showed up in a helicopter shooting at one of their dogs, and then at them, soon after that the true horror begins. Most of the main characters are smart and either run away or fight which I like because usually in movies they either just stand there or trip while running. I personally think that this movie monster is a very unique one, it's looks, acts, and attacks. The alien can take the form of any person or animal it digests, when it disguises itself as human or animal it can act just like them, from a scene one of the main characters, Macready, took a sample of the remaining members of the groups blood, heated up a piece of copper wire and dipped it into their blood samples, when he had reached the imposter’s blood sample it reacted like the blood itself was alive. That's really the only way they can tell them apart if they’re trying to act human, but when it transforms, it’s utterly terrifying. It contorts itself in ways that's not physically possible, it can grow tentacles, eyes, heads, mouths with jagged teeth, extra body parts, and it can grow anywhere on its body.
This movie is easily in my top ten favorite horror movies, I like the film because the actors did a phenomenal job on the roles they played, they were very believable, Also the sound effects the alien made were bone-chilling, the makeup and special effects were mostly believable some of them were cheesy but they were good for the '80s, The movie has that 1980’s horror charm to it. I admire how much work, effort, and dedication that went into making this film.
I think that “The Thing” is a very well made horror movie that almost every scary movie fan would enjoy so, love horror movies? This is definitely a film worth watching.
