Imagine living with an  extraterrestrial and having to hide the alien from your parents for weeks and weeks or else big trouble coming your way for keeping an illegal alien.  In this movie entitled E.T. directed by Steven Spielberg and produced by Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy, an alien becomes stranded on earth and is unable to go back. E.T. is later discovered by a young boy named Elliot, played by Henry Thomas. Elliot introduces E.T. to his siblings and they all agree to keep him a secret. After a certain amount of time keeping E.T. from his parents and others, he falls sick and the children seek help. Though seeking help for the alien  Elliot could get in major trouble, but the children have to decide what is best for the ones they love. During the movie the children's’ goal was to help return E.T. to his home planet and live happily with those whom he loved. This movie was produced and directed very well and came to theatres June 11th, 1982 and immediately had great success. The overall movie idea was very well thought out and nothing like I have ever seen before.

    This movie was very interesting to me for many different reasons. The combination of this movie being action, drama, fantasy, and touching gave a very different feel to it.  I would say that this movie definitely had more strong points than weak. The best parts of this movie to me was the filming with the action shots; since I enjoy action/mystery movies a lot, watching them all trying to find E.T. and the action shots and the lens being used to make it seem as if the viewer was E.T. themselves was very interesting to me. I would have to say another strength of this movie would definitely have to be the actors and the wonderful jobs they did. Gertie (Drew Barrymore) is the youngest of the siblings and has much attitude and with being girly which is a very cool combination to see. Michael, played by Robert MacNaughton, was Elliot’s older brother and always thought his younger siblings were annoying until this amazing new discovery. All actors in this movie did a wonderful job fulfilling their roles and helped the film flow together so well. The only thing I didn’t enjoy would have to have been the length of the opening scene because it seemed to drag on.

    If I was to pick a character in the movie I was most like it would be Gertie. I would say this because we relate in many ways such as style and personality. Though Gertie is young, she often is referred to as having a snarky attitude for such a young girl. The part that made me think I related to her most is because her brother would always get irritated by her, which reminds me a lot of me and my brother and how I may sometimes make him feel.

    I believe that Spielberg’s main goal was to show the power of teamwork, sticking together and love during tough situations. To help E.T. return home safely, much teamwork and love was required.  Showing companionship was also a large goal in this movie. Sometimes to get a large, hard task done multiple people are needed to stick together to get the best possible outcome and help the ones they love to the best of their abilities.

    As I mentioned before I would highly recommend this movie to people of all age groups, as it is rated PG and easily would give it at least a 4.5/5 stars, if not all 5. The acting was wonderful and very realistic. The cinematic elements such as the camera angles and action shots all helped really capture the magnitude of this movie and tie it all together very nicely. I never expected to love a movie about aliens and fantasy this much, however, this movie is now one of my all time favorites.
