Blood, blood, blood; this was certainly plentiful in the new release, Interview With The Vampire from director Neil Jordan. This movie is an adaptation of an early novel by Anne Rice. Well, this movie not only proved to be a waste of money, but also a waste of a night.

The movie, told in a flashback, begins with an interview between Christian Slater, an author, and Brad Pitt, a two-hundred-year old vampire-reluctant. Pitt has just lost his wife and infant in childbirth and would rather be dead than lonely. His wishes are answered by his co-star, Tom Cruise, who brings Pitt into the immortal life of a vampire. After getting a taste of his new life, Pitt refuses to drink the blood of humans and turns to birds, poodles and even rat's blood for survival.

Bruise and Pitt later decide to turn a little orphan girl into a vampire to start a family and for companionship for Pitt. The girl and Pitt grow close during the story. She is also a vampire-reluctant wishing to become a woman, but unable to due to eternally young vampire life. Even though she is also resentful of her new way of life, she has no problem drinking human blood. She does her fair share of killing throughout the movie.

This movie has no truly enticing parts despite its famous leading men. It would be nothing without blood and violence. The story line is lacking and, when Cruise tries his turn at comedy, he fails miserably. This gothic tale should remain a book to read, not a movie to be seen. It is a much better work of the imagination. .
