Frank’s soothing vocals set the tone for this song. In his album Blonde, probably one of the most well-known songs Ivy has 414,575,648 plays ranked number 5 out of his discography. Ivy debuted along with the album on August 20th, 2016 published by Boys Don't Cry. In the song, Ivy Frank Ocean sings about a breakup that he had that seems to be one of his first loves. In the first lines, he sings in light and soothing tones. “ I thought that I was dreamin' when you said you love me / The start of nothin' / I had no chance to prepare, I couldn't see you comin'/ The start of nothin' ”. In these lines, he begins to paint the picture of how the relationship was but by repeating the line the start of nothing you begin to understand the effect the breakup had on him. He then sings the lines,  “ Ooh, I could hate you now/ It's quite all right to hate me now/ When we both know that deep down / The feeling still deep down is good”. In these lines his vocals are angelic and he begins to portray how even though they hurt each other and they want to act like they don't have the same feelings for each other they will always have a soft spot for each other.  As the song progresses Frank beautifully expresses the emotions through the vocals which intensify as the song goes on, “ If I could see through walls/ I could see you're faking/ If you could see my thoughts/ You would see your face is/ Safe in my rental like an armored truck back then/ We didn't give a **** back then/ I ain't a kid no more/ We'll never be those kids again”. In these lines, he begins to dive even deeper, even though he says before how they will always have that soft spot for each other and the relationship or their connection will never be the same. A few lines after that Frank says “I broke your heart last week/ You'll probably feel better by the weekend/ Still remember, had you going crazy/ Screamin' my name /The feeling deep down is good”. In this part of the song his voice changes to a solemn tone. In these lines, it sounds like he is boasting but at the same time, it sounds like he understands the damage he did to his significant other back then and how he messed up on his part. Even later a few more lines down towards the end of the song he sings this part in a high-pitched and distraught tone, “All the things I didn't mean to say/ I didn't mean to do/ There were things you didn't need to say /Did you mean to? Mean to?”. In this part Frank begins to feel the guilt for what he did to his significant other during the relationship and how he treated them poorly but, he also begins to wonder if they meant what they said as well back then. I believe this song is well written and that Frank was the perfect singer to portray and depict these feelings. The way he sings is so compelling that it puts you in a gloomy trance and helps you to feel emotions you didn't know you had. I believe Ivy by Frank Ocean is a well-written and produced song that deserves to be ranked 5 or even higher on Frank’s discography.
