Sleepwalking in a dream-a godlike album of ILLENIUM
“Making music is vulnerable. Listening to music is vulnerable.”ILLENIUM
There is a bird, who flies in the sky of electronic music; who shocked people from globally when he was only 28; who appeared in public from Ashes, and Awake in 2017. This is ILLENIUM, who produced a piece of electronic music called The Phoenix before he became famous. And that is the reason why he always used his famous logo -phoenix.
This phoenix and the expressions of the whole album are just like his unique personalities. Even if he made mistakes, he still awaked from the ashes and tried to put all his feelings mixed with the real life into the whole album. It made all of the songs in the album not only touch the bottom of my heart, but also make my memory starting to be followed by the fantastic melody.
“It starts sad, it kind of starts in a place in a place of loss and it comes out in a place of hope.” ILLENIUM mentioned this towards his album. Even though it sounds simple, they still make me remember deeply, because it shows his music was mixed with his own feelings. Every time when I listened to his music, I just felt I was swimming in his mind.
Needed You is a perfect opening of the whole album, it involves heart-breaking melody and the quivering bass. The emotion of the song becomes sadder and sadder after appearing Dia Frampton’s vocal and helps to base the other parts of the album. It makes me become a sleepwalker wandering in the illusion created by him.
Fractures is one of the most inspiring pieces I have ever heard before. When the music begins, the whole feeling becomes very ethereal. It is like a profound black hole which tries to absorb me to be one part of the music. It soon brings me to a severe breakdown. The encouragement from the lyrics, however, always inspires me to be a steadfast person so that there is possibility of changing my life attitude whenever I hear the melody.
Let You Go is incredible with every layer, which is filled with sadness but still hopeful. It blends the precise production into the exquisite vocal and continues calling my emotion. Sometimes, it brings loneliness to me, but not desperate, it includes a powerful force within love. There is a little flame behind the loneliness which steers me to find hope in the darkness.
Recently, tons of people doubted that he could not make such godlike album, and I am feeling the same way. It is difficult to connect with his new productions. However, ILLENUIM is still fighting and trying to get his awareness.
