I know it's hard to grasp now, but there was a time when Britney Spears wasn't the queen of the tabloids, or trying to destroy her once-pure image. It was during this time that she blasted onto the music scene with the release of “... Baby One More Time.”

This certainly is not the best CD ever recorded, and Spears may not have the best voice, but if you're in the mood for a teeny-bopper anthem, the title track is always there. “(You Drive Me) Crazy,” which also appears as the title song to the movie, “Drive Me Crazy,” has some of the best beats I've ever heard. The infectious melody and lyrics always leave me dancing.

Over the years, many have accused Spears of not being able to sing. It's true that her range is not the biggest, and her voice pales in comparison with Jessica Simpson and Christina Aguilera, but still her vocal abilities are probably much greater than any of her critics who constantly slam her.

Spears' wonderful tone is exhibited most on “Sometimes,” a heartfelt quasi-ballad that gets people to sing along. The break-up anthem “From the Bottom of my Broken Heart” gives her ample time to prove she really does have the credentials to back up her fame. The fact that she can bring such a simple tune to life proves Spears is a genuine artist. Also, while listening to these songs one must envision her, one of the greatest stage-show entertainers, singing to a packed arena.

The final song, “The Beat Goes On,” a cover of the Sonny and Cher hit, leaves the listener with a sense of finality. Spears completely revolutionized the music industry, a fact many may have forgotten. She must have known when recording that song that her beat was going to go on for a very, very long time.
