Bastille
What is “Bastille” you ask? Well, I’m not talking about the historical fortress in Paris. Bastille is a new British band that keeps getting more and more buzz. You may know them by their hit song “Pompeii” which was featured in the recent animated film, Mr. Peabody and Sherman. However, they have so many great songs and more and more people are discovering them every day. In 2010 one of the band members, Dan Smith, started a solo act but later decided to form a band. Soon after becoming a band, they received a recording contract. Their first single was released in 2012 and their album in 2013. It wasn’t until 2014 the band got their real start after winning the British Breakthrough Act at the Brit Awards. As of February 2014, the band has sold over 2.7 million records in the UK alone. You’re probably wondering what kind of band makes such great music that I felt the need to write about it. Well, they have a very unique genre that I feel people of all ages could enjoy. They are considered a rock band but also can be classified as indie pop and synthpop. Also something I really like about Bastille is that they have music for any mood. They have inspirational songs for when you’re feeling down, they have fun/upbeat songs for when you’re happy, they have songs for when you’re stressed and the list just goes on and on. I feel like it’s important to do different things as an artist or your music starts to get boring and predictable. There have been so many successful British bands (like the Beatles and One Direction) that Bastille really had to do something that showed they were different. I’d say they succeeded in that because there’s never been a band quite like them. They’ve worked so hard to get where they are now and now they are performing at sold out concerts and touring all over the world. They are famous (and keep getting more famous by the minute) but since this fame is fairly new, I felt the need to get their name out there for those of you who haven’t heard of them. I feel like as time goes on they are going to get bigger and bigger and touch more and more people. They are definitely becoming the next big thing so if you’re looking for some great new music, I suggest you give Bastille’s album “Bad Blood” a listen. You won’t regret it.

I was inspired to write this because this band is really important to me and I'm hoping other people will love their music as much as I do.
