Requiem by John Rutter MAG
The title of this article may not sound familiar to you, so I'll do a little bit of explaining. John Rutter is a popular composer of modern classical music. A requiem is a mass for the dead, mostly in Latin. Combine these two elements and you have a powerful, emotional text full of Rutter's beautiful, lush music, making for great listening. The Turtle Creek Chorale and the Women's Chorus of Dallas perform this particular recording in a very expressive way. (Be warned, though, that the soprano soloist might make you reach for earplugs.) It moves the listener with both powerful, loud sections and intense soft ones that captivate the listener and really make the piece what it is.
There are also five other anthems composed by Rutter, my favorite being a spellbinding version of "A Gaelic Blessing." It should also be noted for a more experienced classical listener that this ensemble doesn't perform the music in the typical bright, flowery style that is usually Rutter's music. I personally liked this presentation.
Even if you're not into classical music, this is a very modern-sounding piece that could get you hooked quickly. And for the avid classical listener, this is a must-hear musical experience
