The Go-Go's: Live At The Orpheum MAG

By Anonymous

The Go-Go's played the Orpheum Theatre in Boston on a Friday recently to a very enthusiastic audience who didn't sit for the entire set, lasting over an hour.

It was a stroll down memory lane as the audience watched Belinda Carlisle, the group's lead vocalist, dance through such hits as "Head Over Heels," "We Got the Beat" and a new song, "Cool Jerk," in her usual fashion. Jane Wiedlin, by far the most outspoken in the group gave a tasteful plug for PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).

A really nice touch was the almost-acoustic version of "Vacation." Her unique Alvin Chipmunkesque vocals need no assistance, and could have stood on their own, like Gina Schock's percussions. Another would-be sensational song, that only came off as mildly wonderful was "Mercenary." Again, those darn techies ruined it all.

What the band missed on the musical target, they more than made up for in having a good time. The group, including Charlotte Caffey, on lead guitar and keyboards and Kathy Valentine on bass, seemed to be having as much fun as their fans. They happily returned for three encores, and fought over which songs to do. Twice the California Girls released streamers at the ends of songs. In short, they had a ball, which made it all the more enjoyable for the audience. n
