The 8th season of the world renowned British television show Doctor Who began just last month. The latest season began with the new incarnation of the 12th doctor. This is my favorite show along with a lot of others favorite show this being because of the work they have put into it, the different array of characters and a few memorable piece. First off you get the ever recognizable doctor and his “sidekick” but he hasn’t been the same for the past 50+ years. There has been the reincarnations of now 12 doctors each with a new companion . You also get the same few props or objects in every season from the sonic screwdriver to the tardis better known as the big blue police box. With every show you have to care and give craftsmanship in your work giving a good costume to each and every actor or taking your time on makeup and hair.

With every reincarnation comes a new actor. The first doctor being played by William Hartwell and number 11, matt smith. The latest doctor is number 12, Peter Capaldi. With every new doctor comes his companion, his sidekick, the one who gets to, or has to, go along with him.  Matt Smith’s sidekick being Amelia Pond played by Karen Gillian. The longest reincarnation of the doctor was 7 years from Tom Baker who was the 4th doctor from 1974 to 1981.The shortest of incarnations were from the 8th and 9th doctors played by Paul Mcgann and Christopher Ecclestion. Along with the doctor comes a few more memorable pieces of the story.

A television show isn’t complete with some iconic parts. Astride from the obvious doctor is one of the many other noticeable things in Doctor Who the most memorable  is the sonic screwdriver. For every new doctor they have a newly designed sonic screwdriver the most common thing it can be used for is a lock pick its also it can perform medical scans and  also track alien life. Another is the obvious Tardis. It is simply a big blue police box that is “bigger on the inside”. Tardis or time and relative detention in space. These pieces will obviously take a long time but without it this show wouldn't be as popular.

The oxford dictionary defines craftsmanship as “The quality of design and work shown in something made by hand”. For any tv show you need to spend the time so you can have craftsmanship in your product. you can't just neglect the necessary details to get it done quicker. Costumes can and will take months to find and create but putting every little bit and piece together really makes the character. Makeup is another thing you need to spend time on. Makeup may take a few moments to put a few finishing details to hours upon hours to make it perfect. Great amounts of time can be spent on finishing everyone’s makeup just from the simple main characters to aliens and monsters, such as the Weeping Angels or even the Daleks. If you’re going to make one thing perfect, all of the behind the scene work may take time and countless numbers of people always has to take top priority.

Countless numbers of people watch around the world patiently for the clock to strike on a Sunday evening so the newest adventure of Doctor Who to play. Very little thought is put into why this British show is so popular. I think it’s because of it’s ever-changing and highly memorable cast, the bits and pieces spotted in every episode and just the time put into making it what it is.
