Petticoat Love
I became part of an enchanting world,
of petticoats, trousers, and delicate gloves—
the greetings formal, and hair perfectly curled,
Still social expectations, and repressed true love.
There are horse-drawn carriages and fancy balls,
though real affection is forbidden.
Satin whirls, candles flicker in halls—
Must meet beneath leaves, the truth lies hidden.
Magical beautiful language was the time,
yet no genuine freedom of speech.
I think back to when his eyes met mine,
we danced, the melody my heart reached.
Though I felt emotion in that dream, and so real piano fortes sung,
I open my eyes, and what is love really? I must must admit, I am too young.
