One day,
Not so long ago,
I heard you say
"I've missed you so."
You couldn't believe
all I had to bear,
so far from ease.
I had forgotten the color of your hair.
And the warmth of your hugs.
I collapsed in front of you.
The pain couldn't have gone with any drugs.
"You said you would be here soon."
I wipe the tears from my eyes.
I hate how my mind plays such evil lies.
