There were no places to fly,
  A world filled with fire,
There was but one land I could try,
  My body had begged, dire.
I took but one look behind me,
  to memorize my former home,
alas, there was but none to see,
so I closed my eyes of heavy stone.
I went on with moral bounty,
  not everyone can conquer bliss,
though I’d lost everything worth counting,
not all deserve a sinful hiss.
Through long travel I abandoned dismay,
I found strange hope in drifting,
To kiss strangers and lose your way,
I think that’s part of living.
  At last I’d arrived,
The beauty of the home of the free,
I felt bravery, I’d not died,
this country’s where I ought to be.
It was a place alight with magic,
To blossom bright and bloom with love,
To have lost it all, so tragic,
Burn my cage and free the dove.
I need now let my shield wither away,
For the sun will set due every day.
